Justin Escoto

I'm Justin Escoto! I am a graduate of Tecumseh Vista Academy GECDSB. I am attending Carleton University (Official) in Ottawa to study journalism! My career goal is to become an established reporter in my respective field of choice, but my true intention is to inspire others to be a light within their community! I intend to use my education at Carleton University to uplift and motivate aspiring journalists/youth in my community. As someone who is blessed to have been surrounded by extremely motivating and inspiring individuals my entire life, I know the importance of a true role model. Mine have shaped my world outlook and have given me the courage to make a difference in this country. By attending Carleton (which is in a city that is at the forefront of the nation’s issues), I believe that I owe it to my mentors to observe the problems that Canadians struggle with on daily (including Indigenous rights, mental health, among others), to try and figure out effective solutions for each. Through my work, I aspire to inspire the future generations to open their eyes and be the change that their society needs. It’s the only way to move forward. Justin received the Glendora Watkins Memorial Scholarship of $2500 Justin is part of the Scott & Walls family. Congratulations Justin! #HADSCScholarship #HADSC #UGRR #blackhistory365

Unique Allen

My name is Unique Allen. I am daughter of Carmen and Adam Allen. The eldest of 6 children. It has been my dream since I was young to become a fashion designer after graduating from Walkerville Collegiate Institute. I have always been inspired by creating something beautiful from simple fabric. A project like this takes a lot of determination and Imagination. Both things I would like to believe that I have. I want to see a bigger change in our society. For all norms of the eye to be broken. I want to create my own clothing lines and break society’s norms on image. A place where all living can respect and see the beauty in one of another. I believe that studying at St. Clair College will set me on the right path on completing these goals. Their teachings and diversity will open my creativity to the max. Throughout high school my extracurricular activities included events in track in field. These events were 100, 200, and relay. All areas that helped me gain the skills and ambitions that I have today. It valued teamwork and not only looking after yourself. I am grateful to have had an opportunity to experience that community. My community involvement consisted of assisting with paperwork at track meets and volunteering at New life fellowship Church. Both showed me the importance of giving your time to those who need it. I have applied for this bursary to give my dreams their best chance. I want to set a good example for both myself and my siblings. That no matter what life puts you through you can succeed. Unique received the One Church Windsor Scholarship of $3250 Congratulations Unique! #HADSCScholarship #HADSC #UGRR #blackhistory365

Traya Mulder

My name is Traya Mulder and I plan on using my Civil Engineering Degree from @Liberty University to heavily impact my community. Personally, I plan on going into the construction industry. I would love to be able to build bridges, buildings or any other type of infrastructure. Although I would love to become a successful business woman, I also plan on reaching out to those less fortunate. Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always had a heart for the homeless. I always had a desire to help. My family started going downtown Windsor to help feed the homeless with a group called “Be The Light”. In my head I would always wonder, why people who are struggling can’t at least have shelter against the scorching heat, the bitter cold or even the rain. When I was thinking about my career path, my parents told me to think of things I’m passionate about and pursue it. I always enjoyed building and I saw it as a perfect opportunity to be able to do something to help others. If I’m able to, I would like to start a new charity and build homeless shelters around Canada. I would like to be able to help people get back on their feet. By providing shelter, food, warmth, printers and different substance abuse resources, I would want to make sure to help anyone that I can. Traya received the Eleanore Patricia Alexander Top Scholarship of $3500. Traya was not able to attend the scholarship distribution celebration as she's in Virginia at Liberty University but was represented well by her mother Dailah Mulder. Congratulations Traya!
