My name is Madison Lewis-Yang and I am a graduate of Catholic Central High School l in the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board. I am attending Fanshawe College in the Commercial Flight and Aviation Leadership (Aeronautics) Program. My career goal is to become a commercial airline pilot. As a young Black woman aspiring pilot, I am determined to break racial and sexist barriers in fields where many people who look like me are underrepresented. I want to be successful in my career and inspire young Black girls to see themselves in aviation and well-respected careers.

Growing up, I rarely saw people who looked like me in the field of aviation, and I want to change that by showing that the sky has no limits. As a Black woman, I want to be known for my achievements and excellence through my future aviation career. After post-secondary school, I hope to be flying for a regional or major airline, gaining real-world experience while continuing to grow both professionally and personally.

To me aviation is more than just a career because it represents freedom, exploration, and endless possibilities. My dream is to become a pilot, not only to achieve personal success but also to expand the number of female pilots in the male-dominated aviation field. This is my journey to committing to aviation and becoming an airline pilot in the future. When I become a pilot through education, I plan to give back to the community and society by inspiring and educating young Black girls about opportunities in aviation. As aviation is costly, I want to launch an affordable program of mentorship and training for young girls to live out their dreams and work towards a future. I would love to establish my own organization for all Black youth aspiring to be pilots, providing the cost for flight training, medical tests, equipment, and mentorship for pilots all over Canada.
